INDUCTION:

  1. Introduction to Liffey College:

    3. Liffey College offers a range of facilities, including but not limited to fully equipped classrooms, a Study Zone with books and laptops, and a Common Room featuring water fountains, microwaves, and fridges. For more information, CLICK HERE
      Please Note: Liffey College currently operates from a single location. If additional locations are established in the future, learners are not guaranteed enrollment at any specific location. As the college operates from rented buildings, learners acknowledge and agree that if Liffey College relocates, they will be transferred to the new premises to continue their programme. Our premises!     8. College office hours are Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Members of staff are available to respond to queries during those times.

    10. In case of any emergency (in Irealnd) the authorities to phone will be An Garda Siochana, Ambulance or Dublin Fire Brigade and the appropriate services usually deal with all emergencies. The numbers are 112 or 999.

  2. Teaching and Learning:

    2. Final Examination Awarding Body: IELT (TIE Examination)
    3. Class times are (subject to change):
      Morning classes run from 09:00 to 13:00, Monday to Thursday (4 days), with a 15-minute break.
      Afternoon classes run from 13:45 to 17:00, Monday to Friday (5 days), with a 15-minute break.
    4. Our General English programs are delivered in person, complemented by Liffey College's online platform (ELMS), which is also used to track learners' progress. Learners can access the platform from anywhere. A laptop or tablet is recommended, and devices must be charged. Free Wi-Fi is provided, but speed may be affected by the high number of users.
    5. Login details are sent to learners by e-mail upon registration with Liffey College and learners are responsible for making sure that they have this information before the start of their classes.
    6. Due to unforeseen circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic, learning may take place online or in blended form. If classes are online/blended, learners are required to turn on their cameras and microphones and the same rules apply as for face-to-face classes. Learners must access the online classes from a safe and suitable environment. The College is not liable if a learner attends class from an unsafe or unsuitable environment. If classes are online/blended, learners have must have adequate devices with cameras, microphones, and reliable internet.
    7. Learners cannot be guaranteed the same tutors throughout their 25 weeks of study. Teaching may be done individually or/and in small groups.
    8. Where the tutor gives homework or project work all learners agree to participate and complete such assignments.
    9. Field trips are organised regularly and are mandatory for all learners. Attendance is recorded following the same procedures as regular classes. All learners must agree to the trip's terms and conditions and inform the college of any medical conditions that might affect their participation.
    10. Learners are registered with Immigration for specific classes which learners cannot simply change at will. A learner who wishes to change their class time must complete a Time Change Request in their login and pay the administration fee of €300 in advance. In certain circumstances where the fee difference exceeds €300, you will be required to pay the additional amount to cover the cost difference. (i) Class time changes are subject to availability. (ii) Class level change is first come first serve basis along with subject to availability. (iii) Learner will be allowed to change their class time only twice (2) in 25 weeks. (iv) Timing cannot be changed in the same week (only the following week, i.e., staring on the following Monday).

  3. Learner Assessment and Progression:
    1. At Liffey College, learners are assessed on an ongoing basis to evaluate and track their progress throughout their studies. For internal assessments/examinations: CLICK HERE
    2. Learners may receive Academic or Non-Academic warnings in the event of non-participation or unsatisfactory performance in class.
    3. Learners will have to participate in internal assessment. Learners who are continually absent on assessment days will face consequences and will not be eligible to change their level and subject to expulsion.
    4. Learners agree that their internal assesments and/or examinations results may be made available to a third party (such as Immigration Officers, QQI, etc.)
    5. Any learners wishing to move up a level will normally have to complete 12 weeks in their assigned level. Whether or not a learner moves up is dependent on their academic performance and participation in class, based on their test scores as well as progress reports from their tutor(s).
    6. Any learners wishing to move up should consult their tutor, please.
    7. All full-time General English programmes conclude in an English language exam that meets Immigration requirements: CLICK HERE
    8. Upon enrolment non-EEA learners will receive a Final Exam booking confirmation e-mail with the date and level of their exam.
    9. The timetable for examinations is available online and should be consulted: CLICK HERE It should be noted that some exam dates and times may have been scheduled outside the given time-frame of the programme. Learners are advised to contact the College at the time of registration (prior to enrolment) should they require any change. No extension letters will be issued where exam dates are scheduled beyond the course dates.
    10. Please note: once the final exam has been booked (upon enrolment), it is not possible change the date/time.
    11. All learners are entitled to receive upon request a Liffey College certificate of completion at the end of their programme, except learners who have been expelled or who have left the programme or did not sit the final examination.
      Learner’s declaration:

      (i) “I understand that class level changes are subject to availability and contingent upon academic performance. In addition, I understand that if I achieve inadequate results in my assessments I will NOT be eligible to change my level and will have to remain at the same level until my academic performance improves.”

      (ii) "I understand that the Final Exam is mandatory and I will sit my examinations whenever they are scheduled, otherwise sanctions may be taken against me as deemed necessary by the College (Study Visa Rule)"

      (iii) “I confirm the final exam date/time as indicated in this application form and on the college calendar, and I understand that once I have been enrolled it is not possible to change my final exam date/time”

  4. Supports for Learners:

    2. Learners’ Communication System/Student Login: https://student.liffeycollege.ie/home At the beginning of their program, each learner is provided with a unique username and password via email to access their student portal. This portal contains essential information, including (but not limited to): attendance records, course and study start and end dates, ELMS, internal assessments and records, external/final examination dates, holiday schedules, forms, downloads, messages, and more. If learners do not receive an email from the college after enrollment, they should contact the college immediately. It is the responsibility of each learner to ensure they have their login details and are receiving college emails before classes commence.

    3. Grievance and Complaints Policy: CLICK HERE
    4. Learners are encouraged to share their opinions and concerns through regular feedback. Feedback forms are distributed via email or can be accessed online in the "Forms" section of the learner login. All feedback is kept confidential and is used to enhance Liffey College's services. Additionally, student representatives are available to provide support in various languages. The Learner Support Office is also accessible to assist students with any additional needs.
    5. Other forms, such as Complaints (must be submitted within 21 days of the incident), Suggestions, Time Change, etc., are also available online in the learner portal after enrolment.

  5. Liffey College Policies:
    1. Learners are advised to take responsibility for familiarising themselves with Liffey College’s policies and procedures. Important announcements, including information about supports, services, holidays, and more, are prominently displayed on the College Notice Board, TVs, and/or the College Calendar. Additionally, learners should regularly check the learner portal, the Liffey College website, social media platforms, and their email for updates. Please Note: The Learner Handbook is available on the Liffey College website and in the student portal after enrollment.     16. Learner’s declaration:

      (i) “I understand that I can only take holidays from my programme as per the Reform of the International Education Sector and Learner Immigration System Government Policy Statement. In addition, I also understand that I may only be granted two weeks’ holidays if I have completed 12 weeks with 85% attendance and that holidays cannot be approved if there is a conflict with the timetable.”

      (ii) “I understand the Absenteeism/Expulsion Procedures in place at Liffey College; therefore I will attend my classes on time and maintain an attendance rate of 85%, otherwise I may receive attendance warnings and ultimately face expulsion from the College as a result of my poor attendance. I also understand that in the event of expulsion I am not entitled to a refund of the course fees.”

      (iii) “I understand the Fee Refund Policy in place at Liffey College and accept that refunds are only issued in the exceptional circumstances outlined in said policy.”

      (iv) “I understand that is my responsibility to inform the College as soon as possible if I am not receiving College e-mails, and that the attendance warnings and expulsion procedure will be in effect regardless of whether I have received said e-mails.”

      (v) “I understand that Liffey College is operating under government directives and is not liable for any changes to the programme as a result of these.”

      (vi) “I acknowledge the need to behave responsibly and to follow the Liffey College Code of Conduct at all times whilst on class field trips/excursions. I acknowledge that the use, distribution or possession of drugs, alcohol, solvents, inhalants or other dangerous substances posing a safety risk to any member of the group is strictly forbidden. “By my signature I agree that the College is not liable for any accidents or injuries to students while on class field trips or excursions. I agree to abide by the College rules and policies regarding field trips / excursions at all times”.

  6. Health & Safety:
    1. Our full-time General English programmes include Medical Cover and PEL (Protection for Enrolled Learners) policies provided through a third party.

    3. The emergency numbers in Ireland are 112 and 999. Liffey College notice boards and TVs provide information about local doctors and hospitals.
    4. Learners must follow the College Code of Conduct at all times, with regards to integrity, respect, concern and inclusiveness, honesty, diversity and civility. There is no smoking, drug or alcohol use tolerated at Liffey College. Bullying, harassment, Raisum, violence or aggressiveness in any form will not be tolerated
    5. Learners should inform a staff member immediately of any suspicious person or activity on the premises.
    6. Fire Safety & Evacuation: In the event of a fire, learners must gather at the designated Assembly Point. Liffey College conducts regular fire-drills which learners are expected to cooperate with and take seriously.

    8. COVID-19: Learners consent to respect and follow all health and safety protocols implemented by Liffey College based on government directives related to the COVID-19 pandemic or other unforeseen circumstances.

  7. Information and Data Management:
    1. Liffey College complies with EU and Member State data protection laws, safeguarding individuals' rights and freedoms under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
    2. Learner records: All learner records are kept on file in a secure and confidential environment. We require the following documentation from every full-time learner: IRP/GNIB card copy (if applicable), Passport copy, completed new learner induction sheet and application form. For part-time learners we will require a Passport copy (photo ID) and completed application form. No paper copies will be kept; all documentation will be stored online in the College Management System.
    3. Liffey College securely stores electronic copies of medical certificates and similar documents in its online system. Only text entries about these documents are kept. Learners are responsible for keeping their original documents.
    4. Liffey College will keep an online record of each learner’s attendance, progress reports, assessment results, learner feedback and other reports. This information is accessible only to Liffey College staff and the learners themselves (in person, via telephone/e-mail or via the Liffey College online system).
    5. We will share learners’ information only with the relevant government agencies such as Immigration officials, Gardaí, HSE, or educational bodies.
    6. I consent to my image being used in promotional material, on the Liffey College website and/or on social media, in videos or photographs taken at the college or on class excursions/field trips.
    7. I accept that taking pictures and/or making videos in the college premises including in class, of classmates, teachers or other persons attending is not permissible without prior written consent of Management.
